Some brands require low-temperature cooks to cure adhesives. With Auplex BBQ, there’s no complicated break-in process. You can start cooking at normal temperatures unless your manual states otherwise. However, we recommend keeping your first 1–2 cooks under 300°F to allow the felt gasket to fully settle.
FAQs
No. Auplex BBQ ceramic cookers do not require seasoning like metal grills. Just assemble, add lump charcoal, and you're good to go. As noted, the only recommendation is to cook below 300°F during your first couple of uses.
Yes. We recommend checking the bands after assembly and after your first few cooks. Ensure bolts are firmly secured. Loose bands can lead to misalignment or even damage the upper lid or bottom body.

For Auplex BBQ cookers, fill the charcoal fire box to at least halfway. For high-temperature searing or long slow smokes, fill it nearly to the top. Don’t worry about wasting charcoal—just close both vents after cooking to preserve unused lump charcoal for next time.
You can use electric charcoal starters, charcoal chimney starters, or natural starter cubes. Avoid using lighter fluid or instant-light briquettes. For high heat, insert starters through the bottom vent to ignite from below. For low and slow, place starters on top of the charcoal.
Be extremely careful. Alcohol-based gels burn with nearly invisible flames. Never add more gel once lit, as it may cause a flash explosion. We recommend using safer ignition tools like electric starters or chimney starters for your Auplex BBQ.
Contrary to some myths, the outside of a ceramic cooker can get quite warm, especially during high-heat cooks. While Auplex BBQ cookers retain heat efficiently, it’s still important to take safety precautions—avoid direct contact with the ceramic body during operation, and keep kids or pets at a safe distance.
