How to Use the Auplex Kamado Grill Rotisserie
What Is the Auplex Rotisserie?
The Auplex rotisserie turns your kamado grill into a powerful, self-basting outdoor roaster that delivers exceptionally juicy meat with crisp, golden skin—all while requiring almost no attention. It is the ideal tool for elevating whole chickens, pork shoulders, prime rib, legs of lamb, or any large cut that benefits from slow, even rotation over glowing coals. Built from marine-grade stainless steel, the system features a high-torque weatherproof motor and a heat-resistant handle, ensuring long-lasting performance whether you're cooking with the dome open for dramatic flame-kissed results or closed for deep, smoky flavor.

Step One: Prepare the Grill
Position your Auplex kamado grill on a flat, stable surface. Remove the standard cooking grid and set the grill up for direct cooking without a heat deflector. Fill the firebox with lump charcoal. For open-dome cooking, use a moderate amount of charcoal and push it toward the back of the firebox. For closed-dome cooking, fill charcoal all the way to the top of the fire ring. Light the charcoal and allow the grill to reach your target temperature. When cooking with the lid open, keep both the bottom draft door and top vent fully closed to control the fire intensity.
Step Two: Installing the Rotisserie
Open the dome and attach the two rotisserie brackets directly opposite each other, ensuring the protective silicone pads sit flat against the ceramic exterior. Never allow the grill to exceed 600°F, as excessive heat can damage the pads. Slide the motor onto the larger bracket, then connect it to power using the supplied USB-C cable and adapter, or use a compatible portable power bank for off-grid cooking.

Step Three: Preparing the Spit Rod
Slide one prong fork onto the rod and tighten it securely. Thread your protein onto the spit, centering it as precisely as possible for balanced rotation. Push both forks firmly into the meat on either side and lock them in place. For poultry, tie the wings and legs close to the body with butcher's twine to prevent them from flopping during cooking.
Step Four: Starting the Rotisserie
Insert the pointed end of the spit rod into the motor socket, then lower the handle end into the opposite support cradle. Confirm that the rod is fully seated and spins without wobbling. Turn the motor switch to the ON position; you should see smooth, steady rotation immediately.

Step Five: Cooking with the Rotisserie
Lid-Open Cooking
Cooking with the dome open creates dramatic flare-ups and intense direct heat, perfect for achieving charred, crispy skin while entertaining guests. Keep the dome raised throughout the cook, close both vents completely, and use a smaller fire pushed toward the rear. This method delivers bold live-fire flavor and keeps the experience highly interactive.
Lid-Closed Cooking
For slower roasting and deeper smoke penetration, close the dome and draft door. Fresh air will enter naturally through the small gap around the rotating spit. Control temperature using the top vent alone. This setup excels with larger cuts or when you want maximum tenderness and a pronounced smoky taste. A slight opening where the spit passes through the dome is normal and necessary.
Pro Tips
Always center the food perfectly on the spit to ensure smooth rotation and even cooking. Tie loose pieces securely with twine. When cooking lid-open, use less charcoal and bank it toward the back to prevent excessive flames. Stay below 600°F to protect the silicone pads. Portable power banks make the rotisserie completely mobile for tailgates or camping.
Cleaning & Care
Let every component cool completely before cleaning. Wipe the motor housing with a damp cloth only—never submerge it. Wash the spit rod and forks in warm soapy water, using a brush or steel wool for any stuck-on residue, then dry thoroughly to prevent rust.
Storage & Safety
Store the entire kit in its protective carrying case after every use. Clean components after each cook to avoid grease buildup. Hang the case by its built-in loop or keep it indoors to shield the motor and stainless steel from the elements. Always verify that the protein is well-balanced before starting the motor for safe, wobble-free operation.
